General Timeline for SACS Reaffirmation of Accreditation

November -- December 2000

  • Notification of approval to conduct alternative self-study (Nov 1, 2000)
  • Self-Study Director arranges to participate on a visiting accreditation team(confirmed as team member for U of South Carolina, April 2001)
  • Finalize Steering Committee (completed)
  • Attend SACS annual meeting in Atlanta (completed)
  • Determine expertise needed for sub-committees (completed)

January 2001

  • Develop budget, identify staffing and other resource needs (completed)
  • Create website (ongoing)
  • Begin process of engaging the campus in the activity (ongoing)
  • Appoint sub-committees necessary to conduct self-study (completed)

February 2001

  • February 6, Kick-off meeting with Dr. David Carter, Associate Executive Director Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (completed)

March 2001 -- July 2001

  • University suggests consultants with expertise in the focus area (ongoing)
  • International Focus Committee develops questions/process compliance with SACS Criteria of Accreditation (completed)
  • Begin to gather information and documentation necessary for compliance audit (ongoing)
  • Reserve Union Hotel and meeting space for site visit, April 6-10, 2003 (completed)
  • Dr. Michael Adams, President University of Georgia confirmed to lead site visit team

August 2001 - September 2001

  • Send to Colleges/Departments the questions developed to guide the focused self       study (completed)
  • Send to other units the questions developed to guide the focused self study(completed)
  • Presentation to the Faculty Senate (September 6, 2001)

December 2001

  • First draft information for compliance audit is completed

January 2002

  • Draft 1 of compliance committee reviewed and returned for revision to committee members responsible.

April 2, 2002

  • Second draft from compliance committee completed and submitted to SACS office

May - June 2002

  • Compliance materials to Faculty Senate Steering Committee for comment

August 2001 - May 2002

  • Colleges and other units complete self study by responding to self-study questions
  • Refinement of Compliance audit is ongoing
  • Organize kick-off dinner for April 6, 2003
  • Arrange other meal functions for site visit

March 18, 2002

  • Self study materials from units other than Colleges/Departments deadline to the Provost Office

June 1, 2002

  • Colleges/Departments self study materials deadline to the Provost Office

June -- August 2002

  • Appropriate committees review self-study information and request clarification or       additional information as needed from the colleges and other units
  • Finalize arrangements with the Union

August 31, 2002

  • All additions/revisions to college information is received
  • Begin communication with site visit team

September 1 - November 31, 2002

  • Final edits, revisions
  • Provost/President's review
  • Organize for printing

  • Printing
  • Organize student assistance for site visit

February 1, 2003

  • Mail materials to SACS, site visit committee
  • Finalize arrangements for site visitors

  • SACS Site visit
  • Housing will be at the Reitz Union
  • Work room, interview rooms and documents available in Union
  • Students will serve as escorts for across campus visits
